Hello, and welcome to my auction. Up for bid is an amazing 1972 Volkswagen
Westfalia Camper van. A true original, this classic VW gets attention everywhere it
goes. With its two tone bright white and Marigold yellow paint it brings back
memories of much simpler and uncomplicated times. Whether your taking the kids
to the beach, cruising around town, or camping in the desert this van will bring you
hours of fun and enjoyment. Rarely do you find such a well taken care of, rust free
vehicle.
This is a two owner bus which was purchased in Boulder, CO. I have the original
window sticker and buyer's order from the day it was bought new. I affectionately
refer to this Westy as simply "George's Bus". I purchased the van from George,
who was the second owner. He spent many happy days traveling throughout the
Colorado countryside and beyond. He did not mind sharing his wonderful
memories with me.
George also did a tremendous amount of work to his pride and joy. I have receipts
for a rebuilt motor, new tires, etc. which I will include with the sale. Several years
ago he had a slight mishap following someone too close and dented the front nose.
He was not a fan of bondo, so he replaced the nose with a perfectly good used
one. The result of this work is not easily detected, however, I think it is important to
explain in the description.
I tell you what, George was none too happy to part ways with his baby. He was very
particular about who he sold it to, and was happy to hear that I would refurbish it
back to its original glory and pass it on to someone who would enjoy it as much as
he did. I guess that's where I come in. Rather than continue this long winded
description, how about if I just share a few highlights with you:
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Rebuilt engine up-graded to 2 litre with dual Delortos carbs
- New fresh paint, top to bottom looks fantastic
- New Toyo high rated tires
- New battery
- New pop-top canvas with new pop-top seal
- New windshield and gasket
- New windshield wipers
- New front door seals
- Newer tuned exhaust
- Newly reupholstered front seats
- New front door panels
- New marine style carpet
- Full Westfalia camper package with cot in pop-top
I purposely left the camper portion as original as I could, including the wood
paneling, mustard colored vinyl seat and bed cushions. They do show some wear
given that they are 35 years old, but I thought that it lent itself to the overall
integrity of this sweet van.
I also checked out the electrical and found everything to be in working order
including the headlights, tail lights, horn, wipers, emergency flashers, license plate
light, side marker lights, and brake lights. The only thing that doesn't work
consistently is the blinker switch, which I'll try to fix while the auction is going. Note:
Older stereo works, but needs speakers.
I should also mention that the brakes and suspension are in excellent condition.
The transmission shifts smooth and doesn't whine or grind in any gear. The
steering is tight and doesn't drift or clunk. The body and under carriage is
completely rust free, which can be seen in the detailed pictures.
It's getting late and I need to get this listed. I think that whoever is the lucky person
to win this prize will find it a pleasure to drive and even better to look at. Please bid
with confidence and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Be sure to
check out my About Me page by clicking the "me" link next to my feedback score.
I would also like to take this opportunity to inform potential bidders to keep in mind
that this is a classic vehicle and it would be wise to have it shipped to your
destination rather than driving it yourself. I would be happy to help with any
shipping arrangements and can usually get very competitive quotes.
Thanks for looking, Peace...
