Baby Blue Baja Beach Bus....Beautiful. Like a time capsule from the 70's this early split window bus captures the true essence of the ultimate surfer van. I recently purchased this bus from a very nice mid 50's gentleman named Larry, who owned it from 1972. As a young man he set it up to be able to drive it on the beach up and down the California coast and Mexico. He also used it to go camping in the Sierra Nevada's and up into the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Eventually, he moved to Colorado and continued to drive it until the late 90's. The Collector series plate expired in 2000, it has been sitting in dry storage ever since.
This is about as pure and untouched virtually rust free bus as you will find. Larry painted it inside and out the baby blue color years ago. The prep work leaves a little to be desired but overall it turned out pretty well. I contemplated restoring it myself but decided to leave it in its natural state to show just how solid it really is. That way I can sell this at a very affordable price and let the lucky new owner enjoy it just the way it is, or restore to their own personal taste. I did do all the necessary mechanical work to make it a great running and driving bus. This is one of the tightest and smoothest driving splits the I've owned, it's really fun to cruise. Here are a few of the mechanical highlights:
Rebuilt 1600 Single Port Engine (Unfortunately I did not receive any paperwork, when I bought this engine, but you can see by the picture of the valves, just how clean it is.)

The interior or should I say, what's left of the interior, is in fair condition with new door and kick panels. This bus was originally built by a company called American Campers. As you can see, all that is left is the rear bed/bench seat and cushion. It is just sitting there and not currently attached. I left the interior the way I got it, so that it can be left alone or built to your own personal preference. I built this bus mechanically, so that someone can hop in it and start driving it immediately, with confidence. It starts on the first kick, and runs like a mouse with slippers.
These early sixties, small rear window buses are getting harder and harder to find, especially as straight and rust free as this one. Did you check out how clean the front nose, rear apron and deck lid are. Lately, the trend has been to slam your bus as low as possible and drive with your steering box hitting the ground. Show your individuality, buck the trend and drive tall and proud in this unique big-wheeled bus. I guarantee that you will turn heads and attract attention everywhere you go, not to mention getting there in much more comfort.
