Beautiful 1967 Volkswagen one owner bug, with only 79,213 actual miles. The last
year of the metal dash, low back seats, 5-lug wheels, chrome bumpers with over
riders, and the first year of the 12 volt electrical system with the 1500 single port
engine. This is by far one of the most stylish yet practical and sought after bugs
ever made.
I acquired this bug from the original owner who had bought it new in 1967 and had
the original buyers order to prove it, which I have included in the pictures. We had
a funny conversation where I guessed that he paid around $1800.00 for it brand
new. He jokingly corrected me and said that he paid more than $1800.00. It was
actually $1813.00 plus an extra equipment charge of $24.00 for the pop-out rear
windows. Not to mention $55.11 in taxes for a grand total of $1892.11. Talk about
investing in precious metals...I couldn't believe when I drove up to his house and
he had the bug parked in his one car garage and his brand new Porsche was
outside. He explained that he had always wanted a Porsche and wasn't getting
any younger so he thought he better buy one now before it was too late to enjoy
it. Yet, he still could bear to park the bug outside. Talk about a sweet older
gentleman.
I purchased this bug hoping to keep it, and pair it with my 1967 Westfalia bus, but
unfortunately it's just not practical for me to hold on to it at this point. I absolutely
love driving it. It is so tight and smooth, in all my years I don't think that I've ever
driven a bug that feels so much like new.
Believe it or not the paint is all original except for where it was spot painted on the
right front and left rear fender where they were slightly scuffed. The passenger
door has had a little touch-up from minor door chips. The running boards are
original as well, I just repainted them with vinyl paint to spiff them up a little. I
purposely left the floor pans alone to show just how amazingly rust free they are.
As a matter of fact, the whole cars is absolutely rust free. I also did a complete
major tune-up and oil change. As well as putting brand new radial tires all the way
around. When I first got the bug, it had bias ply tires which the owner thought
where only the second or third set of tires he had ever put on it. He did have the
top end of the motor rebuilt recently. AT which point he up-graded to a 1600
pistons and cylinders with rebuilt single port heads. I may have a picture from
under the valve covers which show the rockers and heads to look like new. All the
electrical works perfectly and it has a brand new 12 volt battery. The cool retro
reproduction wood roof rack is included with the bug, but not the icebox on top,
that's for my bus.
Volkswagens come and go in my life, but rarely have I ever come across such a
beautifully maintained and well cared for car. It's one thing to restore a car, and
quite another to find one that is completely original and as new feeling as this 41
year old car. I wanted to show how clean the trunk and spare tire compartment is
and at the same time allow the pictures to capture the normal wear of a car this
age. It's remarkable how well it's held up all these years. So bid well and with
confidence, as this is not your average car. If you have any questions feel free to
