It doesn't get much better than this...I have an original magazine ad compaign
which features this deluxe bus exactly, Red with a White top and Grey
interior. I used that Volkswagen transporter ad from 1968 to inspire me when I
built this bus. Luckily I had an incredible vehicle to start with!!! Absolutely rust
free with a completely original interior. I contemplated buffing out the original
sun faded paint and selling it with a cool patina finish. After much
consideration I decided that this beautiful bus deserved it's first new paint
job bringing it back to its original showroom glory; just like in the ad
campaign. The body was in such great condition that we were basically able
to "scuff and shoot". You may see some small imperfections in the body but
they are true to a 41 year old car.
This is a very rare bus, being that it's the first year of the Baywindow series
along with its Deluxe Trim Package. To top it off, the previous owner modified
the middle seat to fold into a bed so that not only can you haul seven of your
best friends around, you can sleep in it as well. (I think that it might be best to
sleep with one friend at a time, as the bed isn't that big and there could be
other troubles as well). The bus also has the walk through front seat option
which makes it even more versitile. It really is the best of both worlds, in that
it is a passenger/camper van. If you notice in the pictures the headliner,
door panels, dashboard, floor mats, and seats are all in excellent original
condition.
Mechanically this bus is in great shape as well. With all new brakes,
including master cylinder and shoes, it stops straight and smooth. The
transaxle shifts perfectly and doesn't pop out of any gears with no whining or
grinding. The front end is tight and doesn't wander or clunk. Everything
works with the electrical system including the old school am/fm cassette deck
with one speaker in the dash. The engine runs fantastic and has been
up-graded to a 1600 dual port. I was told that it was rebuilt within the last
10,000 miles but I did not receive any paperwork for the rebuild. I did do a
complete major tune-up, including plugs, points, condensor, oil change, and
valve adjust. It also has a new clutch kit and rear main seal.
There are a few miscellaneous upgrades and features as well. New
windshield with new seal and bosch wiper blades, New interstate 12 volt
Battery with warranty. New retro wooden roof rack for that added style and
cool factor. Brand new Goodyear radial tires with sweet whitewalls dressed
up with new beauty rings and hubcaps. New custom made curtains which
really give the bus a great look and feeling of privacy.
This is truly one the cleanest, most original buses that you will find. These
early Baywindows are following in the footsteps of their big brother Split
windows and going up in value all the time. This is your chance to be ahead
of the curve and purchase a reworked and fully functional bus at an
affordable price before they go through the roof.
